Mexico, Part 3

We had such a fun day in Chignahuapan! After visiting the Christmas ornament factory, we went on a mini hike to some waterfalls. The drive to the water falls was pretty scary for me to be honest. I don't mind heights, but I do get scared driving in the mountains where the edge is RIGHT THERE. But we made it!

The water fall area (I think it was called Quetzalapan?) was so beautiful! It totally reminded me of Yosemite! Lance and I were so surprised to see this green luscious forest in the middle of Mexico!

^^ Leila & Diego, I think my 4th cousins?

^^Diego, Chela, and Isabel

Our last activity in Chignahuapan was visiting Las Aquas Termales aka natural hot springs. My grandpa would visit these when he was a kid when it was actually the natural pools. They've now built buildings surrounding the pools, but you can still see the water flow in through a pipe.

Lance drove the 2 hour trip back to Puebla!! I would have been so nervous, but he did great. Driving in Mexico is quite a bit different. There are lots of speed bumps along the highways, and some of them have no sign and are painted black...so you can't even see them coming up. Luckily Lance only hit one of them going full speed haha.

Another funny thing about driving in Mexico, we saw quite a bit of places with a stop sign AND a stop light...which one do you yield to??

The next day we spent the whole day exploring Puebla.

The main square was awesome! Felt like Disneyland...music playing, balloons...

^^I loved the colorful buildings!

^^Look at how beautiful the facade is!

We drove to visit Cholula to see La Iglesia de Nuestra SeƱora de los Remedios. This church from afar looks like it was built on a hill, but it's actually built on an ancient pyramid!

^^Sorry this is out of focus, but we were able to walk through tunnels under the pyramid. Lance could barely fit haha.

^^We had a great view of the city!

^^The interior of the church was covered in gold. They were about to start a mass, so we didn't go in.

^^Last night with sweet cousin Chela! Love her!

^^Our final meal, tacos arabes and flan. Kinda like gyros.

This trip was so much fun. We love Mexico! I think we really got a taste of the culture that we would have missed out on if we hadn't stayed with family. Feeling so lucky to have such gracious family that welcomed us with open arms, can't wait to go back someday!
