adventure of the week!

Actun Tunichil Muknal!
aka ATM. It was amazing!
Cameras were unfortunately not allowed:[
but...it was still awesome! We drove about an hour on THE BUMPIEST RODE IN THE UNIVERSE. It was crazy. I don't normally get carsick, but I felt like I was going to projectile vomit everywhere. Sorry if that just grossed you out. After the death ride, we got to the trail head. The hike to the actual cave was about two miles. We had to walk through three rivers! So cool! The entrance to the cave was straight up water...like I had to swim in because I couldn't touch the floor. So fun. We were in the cave for about 3 hours. We saw tons of Mayan artifacts. My fav was the blood catching bowl where mayans would cut a hole in their tongues and offer their blood to the gods. Just kidding. That grossed me out. We saw bones too! It was really awesome!
One thing. This last week I have really been able to appreciate the beauty of this country. It is SO PRETTY! It's rained a couple times so everything is turning so green! I feel like I'm in Jurassic Park all the time aka I can totally imagine a pterodactyl in our backyard. Second thing. I didn't know pterodactyl started with a "p"!?
Update on los proyectos:
The Garden project is officially done! (ish) We still need to construct rain covers for the garden beds so the plants don't get destroyed during rainy season. Also, I've started a new project! Jez (one of the other volunteers here) and I are going to start a summer reading camp at a local elementary school. I'm really excited about this project! Education is SO important to me. I had a meeting with the principal last Friday and she said that she has been praying for a group to come along and help increase literacy proficiency. This project is going to take a lot of planning and coordinating with the school, but it will happen! I'm stoked to get started.
anyways here are some pics that I googled from ATM. They're pretty accurate!
